Content strategy: the breakout year
It was during his presentation at the most recent gathering of the Content Strategists of New York City that Jeffrey MacIntyre called 2009 the breakout year for content strategy. It’s hard to argue, it seems more people then ever are reading and talking about the practice.
In a recent search for content strategy articles on delicious I was struck by the graph showing a sharp increase in saved bookmarks by readers since the end of last year (represented in Figure 1).
While not easy to trace the springboard it’s a fair assumption that the impact from A List Apart’s content strategy issue in December, featuring two defining articles from Kristina Halvorson and Jeffrey MacIntyre, might have helped somewhat.
To fan the flames further we’ve since had discussions arising from the inaugrial meeting of the Content Strategy Consortium at the 2009 IA Summit, followed by some great presentations, as well as further impacting articles from the likes of Margot Bloomstein, Colleen Jones and more recently Jonathan Kahn – not forgetting the buzz created by a certain book of course.
With every passing week bringing further content strategy presentations, articles, and discussion panel videos to the table – helping us all question our pre-held beliefs and processes – who knows what impact a further year will have on the graph?
